Bose Creates Stereo LCD TV With Free Sticker Shock
Bose, the manufacturer of high-end audio solutions for use in homes and
cars, has decided to try its hand at making an LCD TV. Never mind the
fact that there's already a lot of competition in the market or that the
price trends are actually going down. Bose has come out with an
extravagantly priced TV set that they hope to sell during the holiday
season.
The TV itself it not all that special. Bose is obviously not a display panels company and hence they have focussed on the one part where they are experts in — audio. This TV is fitted with really great stereo speakers. The makers are hoping that the users who hate having bad sound on their TV's will be happier this way. The TV is called the Bose VideoWave entertainment system. It is a LCD TV with built in surround sound emulation. This is done through a large package of speakers sitting behind the TV. So you can forget about having a slim TV. Other than that one feature, it is a normal 46-inch HD TV without any other bell or whistle.
Even though the company is expecting some sales during the holidays, the price tag might turn more than just a few people away. Retailing at a mind numbing $5,350 — this TV set is more than just a little expensive. Given the current economic scenario and the continuously falling prices of LCD TV's, Bose is going to have a tough time selling these TV's.
The research firm DisplaySearch has already predicted that this year the prices will tumble down to 12% than those at the same time last year. LCD sales have been slow this year with consumers continually opting for cheaper models with either plasma or LED.
